Career Services for Recent Graduates

Undergraduate Career Services provides career services to alumni for up to one year after graduation.  After one year, career services are provided by the Alumni Association.  Class of 2018 graduates can take advantage of the resources below to assist with their career development and/or schedule a one-on-one counseling appointment, as needed.

Although one-on-one counseling is available to you, a number of career-related resources are available 24/7 for you.  These resources contain a wealth of information to help young alumni at varying stages of the career development process.

Preparation before Scheduling an Appointment

IMPORTANT: Before scheduling an appointment, recent graduates must complete the following 5 tasks.  If these tasks are not completed before scheduling an appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.

  1. Review the career resources below
  2. Create a LinkedIn profile
  3. Sign up for myNotreDame
  4. Create an IrishCompass profile.
  5. Create an account for CareerShift and review the webinar “Job Seeker Support: CareerShift Demo” found below. (CareerShift) (click “Log-in” on the Alumni Association website and then sign-in or register for the myNotreDame system.  Once you’ve logged in, click the “Continue” button to access CareerShift.  On CareerShift’s website, click the orange “Sign Up Now” button to create your account.

Schedule an Appointment

Once you have completed the five tasks listed above, please complete our Intake Form. Please be as specific as possible - that will help you get connected to the proper career counselor for your needs.


Engage in Self Assessment

In order to choose a career path, you must know yourself. Knowing yourself entails identifying your Values, Interests, Personality and Skills (VIPS). To achieve long term career satisfaction it is important to implement all four of your VIPS in your future career. Completing the following handouts and assessments should help you with this process and will offer clues in understanding your VIPS.

Purposeful Career Transitions: Navigating Your Internal Compass: Point yourself in the right direction by using a framework grounded in your values, experience, strengths, and internal wiring.

Owning Your Skill Set: Stand Out in the Marketplace: To successfully get hired, earn promotions, make industry changes, or complete career transitions, you must be able to articulate your full skill set. This webinar provides information on hard and soft skills and gives pointers on how to distinguish yourself in the marketplace.

Once you have engaged in self assessment, use the resources below to explore industries that best fit with your values, interests, personality, and skill sets.  

  • O*NET: Provides detailed descriptions of the world of work for use by job seekers, workforce development and HR professionals, students, researchers, and more!
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook: The OOH can help you find career information on duties, education and training, pay, and outlook for hundreds of occupations.
  • Vault.com: Provides in-depth intelligence on what it’s really like to work within an industry, company, or profession—and how to position yourself to launch and build the career you want.
  • Company, Industry & Market Research: Taking it to the Next Level: This webinar is for individuals who are interested in expanding their repertoire of public resources and databases that provide valuable information as preparation for a job search, interview, job change or promotion.
  • Networking Like a ChampionBe energized to network like a champion after busting myths, understanding proven go-to techniques and acquiring solutions for common challenges in this webinar.

  • Job Board on Irish Compass: This is a private board accessible only to Notre Dame alumni and job recruiters granted access by the Alumni Association. If you are a Notre Dame graduate, you can upload a resume, search our job postings, post an available position, or search for candidates.
